Over the last two years, the Chicago Blackhawks have worked to build a relationship with Black Hawk’s ancestral tribe, the Sac and Fox Nation of Oklahoma. We learned of their Veterans vision to bring a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter ‘home’ to their ancestral lands. Native Americans have the highest record of military service compared to any other group, with more than 9,000 Native American or Alaska Natives serving our nation today.
When asked what words should represent the tribe on the helicopter, the Veterans chose ‘BLACKHAWK1” for the tail of the vehicle, and ‘Wêtâthêwaki’ on the door, which is the Sauk word for Warrior. All proceeds will be donated towards the work of the Chicago Blackhawks Foundation in support of our partnership with Sac & Fox Nation.
